How Much Do Data Center Electricians Actually Make? (2026, Real Numbers)
Search "data center electrician salary" and you'll find two kinds of answers: salary-site averages that lag reality, and TikTok guys yelling "$200k, no degree!" Both are doing you a disservice. Here's the actual curve, with sources, as of August 2026.
The honest curve

So the $200k stories are fake?
No — they're real and incomplete. The documented $190–260k years happen on mega-projects, and they're built from three stacked components:
- A strong base rate — $52–62/hr is common for journeyman-level data center work in the hot markets.
- Heavy overtime — 55–60 hour weeks, with everything past 40 at time-and-a-half.
- Per diem — traveling techs commonly get $140–210/day untaxed for lodging and meals; disciplined travelers bank a chunk of it.
That's the deal: the top of the curve is bought with time on the road and long weeks. Some people love that life for a five-year sprint; plenty don't. You should know the price before you start — not discover it after.
Where the jobs are
Northern Virginia (Loudoun County's "Data Center Alley") is the largest market on Earth and hires more data center electricians than anywhere else. Texas — Dallas–Fort Worth, the Austin–San Antonio corridor, and the West Texas AI campuses — is scaling fastest. Then Phoenix, Atlanta, Columbus, and Omaha–Council Bluffs.
Every one of those markets is short of licensed electricians, and the buildout pipeline is measured in hundreds of billions of dollars this decade.
